Prismatic glass breaks white light into the color spectrum, energizing the interiors with natural light and color. A glass system across 21 clerestories creates solar shading on south, east and west facades. The glass is milled into a custom sawtooth profile, then laminated onto an IGU to mitigate solar heat gain thereby improving the building’s energy performance.
Space Curve light fixtures illuminate the café of Rubenstein Commons. These custom glass pendants were fabricated from CNC cut cherry wood molds milled in the SHA shop by Director of Fabrications Michael Haddy, then blown by KEEP at UrbanGlass Studio.
“We believe in the experiential dimensions of architecture, the haptic realm of material and detail. Glass becomes radiant as, in transformed states, its functional role is shifted. Bending glass induces dazzling variations to a simple plane with the geometric curvature of reflected light. Cast glass with its mysterious opacity traps light in its mass and projects it in a diffused glow.” – Steven Holl
